Citizenship Through Sports Alliance (CTSA)

SAMI has worked with the Citizenship Through Sports Alliance (CTSA) since 2002, and SAMI currently provides complete management services to the organization. CTSA is the single largest coalition of professional and amateur athletics organizations in the U.S., and it is focused on character in sport. Members of CTSA include the NCAA, Major League Baseball, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, National Junior College Athletic Association, National High School Federation, National Association for Sport and Physical Education, and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

Under SAMI’s leadership, CTSA developed the first National Youth Sports Report Card in 2005, and SAMI has produced research-based resources for parents and coaches involved in youth sports, including a parents’ guide that includes important, tangible tips from experts on how to provide the best possible positive sports experience for kids. CTSA will issue the second National Youth Sports Report Card in the fall of 2009. It also will publish a revised version of the parents’ guide in the fall of 2009.

CTSA was instrumental in the development of the Congressional Caucus on Youth Sports, which kicked off its work in April 2006 at the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

CTSA’s other focus is the AT&T National Sportsmanship Awards, held annually in St. Louis. This event, “the most inspirational night in sports,” has touched hearts and minds and brought local, regional and national attention to special acts of sportsmanship each year.
